2024 Toyota Tacoma

2024 Toyota Tacoma describes the as the result of an entire reengineering effort. It means this new car has more powerful and better features than before. And, we can see it clearly from the first glance at its exterior.

The changes are also necessary to make this legendary series keep up with the competition. As far as we know, Tacoma was unable to speak a lot in the mid-size pickup truck market, especially compared to its competitors, like Ford Ranger and Chevy Colorado. However, we believe the new Tacoma has what it takes for next year's competition.

So, what kind of changes does the new Toyota Tacoma have? What Toyota did to this new mode to be able to compete with other midsize pickup trucks? Here, we have a first impression and review of the 2024 model of the Toyota Tacoma series.

2024 Toyota Tacoma Design

Toyota will release eight variants for the new Tacoma series. They are , Trailhunter, Limited, TRD Off-Road, TRD Sport, TRD PreRunner, SR5, and SR variant. All variants have similar exterior designs. Toyota gives them a muscular look, which matches its power and capability to tackle various road types.

The most noticeable part is the hexagonal grille frame. Each variant uses this frame with a different type of grille pattern. So, we can say Toyota has successfully created a different face for each variant. Now, let's see the specifications of each variant.

2024 Toyota Tacoma Specifications

As mentioned earlier, Toyota tried to re-engineer this series to be able to provide a much better experience and the strength to compete in the mid size truck market. And, we can see it from the specifications of each variant. Below, we have summarized and checked out the specifications for this model variant.

TRD Pro Specifications

This variant uses i-FORCE MAX 2.4-liter turbocharged powertrain with 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. To ensure your comfort when riding this beast, Toyota adds TRD-tuned 2.5-inches shocks with a FOX Internal Bypass QS3 system on the back. It produces better shock absorption when you take it on a rocky road.

Inside, it uses an IsoDynamic Performance Seat. It has a dampening system that will absorb the shock when your car shakes wildly on the road. Lastly, Toyota also uses high clearance for the front bumper. Then, in the back, they use an ARB steel rear bumper, plus recovery hooks for emergencies.

Trailhunter Specifications

This variant uses the same hybrid powertrain as the TRD Pro variant. Therefore, the output it produces is also the same, which is 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. However, Toyota gives it a different shock breaker system. It uses the Old Man Emu with a 2.5-inch forged monotube shock absorption system. It is also located at the rear side of the car.

The cargo area is available in two different sizes. You can get a 5 or 6 ft bed. The cargo area also has an ARB Sports Bar for extra protection. Plus, this bar also improves its visual level. It looks more modern and cool, which is suitable for today's trends.

Limited Specifications

There is not much difference between its powertrain and the output. It is the same as the variant above. Therefore, you also can expect the same performance as the other variant on the Limited one. Other than the same powertrain, another interesting thing we can find on this variant is the beautiful 18-inch wheels. It is alloy wheels with a beautiful chrome finish. The tailgate also has a power up/down system, plus power running boards.

TRD Off-Road

As its name implies, Toyota designed this variant for the off-city route. The off-road variant of the new Toyota Tacoma has specifications that match the road where it will run. It includes the Bilstein monotube shocks. This shock system has unique remote reservoirs, which are one of the best shock absorbers you can find on the market.

Also, instead of an automatic transmission, Toyota gives it 6-speed manual transmission. It gives you more freedom to control the vehicle on various surfaces. You can decide when you want to use more power or mobility. Furthermore, it has Crawl Control to deal with rocky roads and Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) feature that helps it adapt to various terrain.

TRD Sport Specifications

Its powertrain is the same. However, the suspension design adapts to its sports concept. TRD uses a specially-tuned suspension for stability and performance. It also uses similar 6-speed manual transmission as the Off-Road variant. Appearance-wise, it has a mesh grille, hood scoop, and a set of beautiful 18-inches alloy wheels.

TRD PreRunner Specifications

TRD PreRunner uses a similar powertrain. But, the type of this variant's engine is a bit different than all variants above. It uses the non-hybrid i-FORCE 2.4L turbocharged engine. It seems that the different engine specification also affects its output. This variant can only produce 278 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. We believe this lower performance also affects the prices when it is released later. So, it can become a solution for you with a limited budget but want to buy a new Tacoma.

This variant also seems to focus on providing enough space to carry your stuff. It has an XtraCab rear storage feature that comes with a 6-ft bed. It is wide enough to carry everything you bring on your trip. It uses 17-inches alloy wheels. Also, it has an electronic rear locking system.

SR5 Specifications

Specifications-wise, SR5 is like the brother of the TRD PreRunner. It is very similar to the powertrain, engine, and the output it produces. However, this variant uses a different rear suspension. Toyota installs coil-spring suspension type for the rear wheels. This suspension is only available on Double Cab only.

It also uses 17-inches alloy wheels. As for the cargo area, the Double Cab model comes with 5-ft and 6-ft options. You also can get the XtraCab feature that comes with a 6-ft bed.

SR Specifications

The last variant you can get from the new Tacoma is also the cheapest when we see its specifications. It uses a similar powertrain, yet the output it produces is much lower than other variants. The SR variant can only produce 270 horsepower with 310 lb-ft of torque.

It comes with 6-speed manual transmission and two cargo design choices. You can get the Double Cab and XtraCab. The XtraCab design has a similar bed size to other variants. However, for the Double Cab SR, you can only get one size, which is 5-ft.

2024 Toyota Tacoma

The i-FORCE MAX Importance

As you can see, many of the variants on the 2024 Toyota Tacoma use the i-FORCE MAX engine system. This system is an innovative system that brings this new model to a new height. This new hybrid system creates the most efficient usage of the combination of the fossil-fueled engine and the hybrid battery system.

The Max turbo-four feature on this system creates a similar system that you can find on a twin-turbo V6 engine. Toyota places the electric motor and clutch between the gas-fueled engine and transmission. Therefore, it creates an additional boost when you need it. Because of this design, you can reach its maximum performance at a lower RPM (1700 RPM). You will feel the torque kick up when you use this feature on the road.

The i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain also has another innovative design on its engine stop and start and various driving modes. Toyota uses the parallel hybrid setup, which connects the system with a 1.9-kWh nickel-metal hydride battery that produces 288-volt power. This setup gives this vehicle more energy when you need it.

2024 Toyota Tacoma Interior and Features

The interior of the 2024 Tacoma shows the result of the redesign decision made by Toyota. We can only say that the result is very satisfying. First of all, the dashboard material has a much better look. We haven't tried it directly, but it seems that the materials also feel good when you touch them.

On the dashboard, you can find a screen that displays high-resolution images. You can still see the traditional switchgear beside. This combination creates a unique sight that merges the future and the precious part of this series.

The screen is larger than the standard Tacoma screen from the previous model. The standard size for the Tacoma screen is about 7.0 inches. However, this new model uses a 12.3-inch screen. You also can get the head-up display on the Limited variant and above. This screen shows you various information and car status. Plus, you also can control various features on it.

Now, let's move to the seat feature. The more expensive variants have many seat features that give you a more comfortable trip. It includes heated and cooled front seats for the Limited variants and above. As mentioned above, TRD Pro also has an IsoDynamic seat. It has an air-over-oil system that provides stability when you ride this vehicle on uneven surfaces.

Toyota also changed the seating position. Compared to the previous model, the 2024 Tacoma has a higher seating position. By raising the seating position, it creates more headroom. It means you won't feel like sitting on the floor when you drive this truck. You also get more views alongside windows with minimum blind spots.

The new seating position gives more comfort to drivers and passengers. Moreover, Toyota also uses an adjustable steering column. That means you can adjust it to match your body size, which is another best feature for making you feel more comfortable when driving.

The Infotainment and Connectivity Features

All variants use the standard infotainment system as you also can find on other Tacoma models. Each of them gets an 8.0-inch touchscreen. However, the Limited variant has a bigger touchscreen. Other than the head-up display, this variant also has a 14.0-inch touchscreen. You also can find this screen on TRD Pro and Trailhunter.

As for connectivity features, the new Tacoma comes with the standard wireless feature compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Unfortunately, the audio system on this model is pretty standard. We don't find anything that we can highlight.

However, you can still opt for a JBL audio system when you buy this model. This feature also comes with a Bluetooth speaker. It is a detachable speaker, which allows you to place it anywhere you want. As an optional feature, it means you have to pay more to get one. Another optional feature in 2024 Tacoma is the wireless charging pad. It is not necessary unless you want to get extra comfort and a less complicated method to refill your Smartphone energy.

2024 Toyota Tacoma Safety Features

Toyota adds driver-assistance technology to all variants of the 2024 Toyota Tacoma model. It is one of the standard features for this new release. Other than that, you also can get the automatic high-beams feature for more protection.

The optional camera to monitor blind spots and rear cross-traffic alert is available on this model. It cost more. However, it gives you a more peaceful mind when you ride it on the road.

All 2024 Tacoma models also get the standard Toyota safety feature, the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. This safety feature has various functions, such as lane departure warning, auto high beams, road sign assist, pre-collision warning, pedestrian detection, proactive driving assist, and radar cruise control.

More importantly, this has passed the safety test by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). It also received a good mark on the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) test. The thing to note here is that the test includes the forward collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automated emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control.

Price and Release Date

Toyota only releases detailed specifications for this new model. As for its price, we can only estimate it based on the previous Tacoma model. So, we expect the cheapest variant (SR) will be available starting from $28,000. As for the most expensive variant (TRD Pro), it will be available starting from $50,000. The 2024 Toyota Tacoma will be available at the end of 2023. Some variants will be available later in the early 2024.
