New 2023 Honda Pilot – The Honda Pilot is completely revamped for the new 2023 Honda Pilot model year, with improved rugged styling, more passenger and cargo space, and a class-leading combination of capabilities. This new Honda SUV has evolved into the ultimate family vehicle.
It rides on a new, dedicated light-truck chassis and has more length, wheelbase, track width, interior space, power, technology, and off-road capability than ever. Yes, “more” is the keyword for the 2023 Honda Pilot.
What’s under the hood of the new 2023 Honda Pilot?
The engine in the Pilot is a 3.5-liter V6. Honda claims it is completely new, with a brand-new aluminum block among other changes. It has 285 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. This is only a slight 5-hp increase over last year's model, but the new Pilot also includes a 10-speed automatic transmission, which gains a gear over the previous nine-speed transmission.
The new V6 and transmission combination may produce a slightly better acceleration, but we won't know for sure until we receive a new Pilot for thorough testing. The previous-generation Pilot we tested went from 0 to 60 mph in 7 seconds, which was already faster than average for a midsize three-row SUV. Most trim levels come standard with front-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive available as an option (though it is standard on TrailSport and Elite models).
How does the New Pilot’s interior look?
The TrailSport and Elite models of the 2023 Honda Pilot both offer pleasing cabin materials and a new interior design that bears a passing resemblance to that of the new Honda Civic, a design that has spread to the rest of Honda's smaller vehicles. The multimedia screen, like in the Civic, is mounted on top of the dashboard rather than being more integrated into it.
The Pilot's extra length comes in handy for second and third-row passengers. The previous Pilot had a small third row that couldn't accommodate adults comfortably and couldn't compete with larger competitors. Honda claims that second-row legroom has increased by 2.4 inches while third-row legroom has increased by 0.6 inches, but all of those gains benefit the third row the most because the second row can slide back and forth.
What exactly is the new TrailSport trim?
With the addition of the TrailSport trim level, the new 2023 Honda Pilot gains an off-road model. This is the second TrailSport that Honda will offer; the first was on the Passport, but it was more of a glorified appearance package that didn't add any real capability.
The Pilot, on the other hand, receives some mechanical upgrades that should make it easier to, well, pilot when the paved roads end. It begins with a 1-inch suspension lift that adds more ground clearance (Honda hasn't specified how much) as well as more wheel travel to help keep the wheels in contact with the ground.
