Engine from The Civic Type R
People must be curious about the engine used for the Integra Type S. This model will come with the engine from the Honda Civic Type R, after all. It means that the 2.0-liter turbo powertrain is used for the Integra Type S.
The 2023 Acura Integra type S prototype was recently spied in Ohio. People can see clearly that it comes with a front grille and taillights that are specific to the Acura. More importantly, it is combined with the exhaust system that is also used for the FL5 CTR.
The exhaust system that can be seen on the new Integra Type S prototype is inspired by the iconic exhaust layout of the Ferrari F40 limited-run supercar. However, the exhaust system on the Honda cars will be more than a design choice.
The exhaust system was introduced a few years ago by the FK8 CTR and it is designed for adjusting the flow according to the vehicle speed. Straight-flow mufflers can be found as the outer pipes. Meanwhile, the smaller pipe in the center is designed to work as a resonator.
At low speeds, more exhaust will flow into the resonator of the Type S version of the 2023 Acura Integra. As a result, you will get the sounds that you might expect of a hot hatch. However, the exhaust gases will be diverted by the backpressure through the mufflers when you get on the highway for the long haul.
It is pretty different from the all-new Honda Civic Type R, after all. It comes with an active exhaust valve that is designed to open at high engine rpm.
From the photos of the prototype, the Type S of Integra also comes with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S wheels that can also be found in the FL5. It also comes with Brembo calipers and slightly larger intakes for funneling more air into the force-fed engine. There might also be better cooling not only for the front brakes but also for the engine bay.
The 2023 Acura Integra type S might be offered exclusively with a manual transmission. This sports car should be able to deliver 300 horsepower. The US version of the FL5 can produce 315 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque while the Japan version can deliver 325 horsepower.
